the pragmatic treasure chest

There is a little secret I would to impart with you today. It is my little treasure chest of books that have served me far and beyond. Besides the amazing range of O’Reilly books I own. I would like to make mention of the Pragmatic Programmers Collection. If you have not yet browsed through their bookshelf stop what you are doing and go there now!

If there is one book that will really boost your career and take you places it is: Practices of an Agile Developer.

The agile software movement is growing so rapidly and sounds very IBM business orientated (no offence IBM you just not that hip). But at the heart of it all it really is just a community of developers who share their knowledge of software development best practices with each other. It is just a great community to join.

If you are an old skool Flash hacker and reading this post saying what is all this agile crap? There was none of this in the golden age of Flash, please bare with me for a second.

The reason why you are probably going to hear more about agile software best practice is because our little Flash baby has grown up to be quite a complex fella.

Taming the beast is becoming a real challenge and agile practice will help you manage yourself and your workload with ease when you need it. It has changed my outlook and taught me to consider my team members and facilitate project success through my contribution of work.

While you at it, check out the Pragmatic Programmer range of Ruby books. If you do not know what all the fuss about Ruby is, perhaps start with From Java to Ruby. Ruby is a kick ass language and gets your job done in record speeds.

Go for it!
