Flash video grows up fast
June 24th, 2007
I’ve been looking at various different url sniffing techniques and analyzing various ways to protect flash content online. In my findings I have come across some interesting websites that I thought I would share.
The first website is a forum completely dedicated to downloading and saving digital streaming content. It provides a very interesting read for any developer involved in streaming video. They even have a topic dedicated to saving webcam streams and include instructions on saving your skype video conversations, I actually find this quite handy!
The second website offers an application that sniffs out http streams and gives you the option to download and save them to your hard drive for later, it looks kind of suspect though so I have not tested it (although it does seem to be effective).
It is great to see that flash video is in such high demand that people are saving videos for later but is also challenging to protect your content and ensure stable content delivery.
With Adobe AIR on the horizon and the Adobe Media Player (code named Philo) and so many people downloading flash videos to their desktop our favourite little video format is growing up fast.
You can watch a video demonstration of Philo over here, and read about it on the Adobe Labs website.
By the way, have you seen the demonstration of high definition flash video by Tinic Uro? Forget Joost hello hi-def flash… (yummy)
